Packages for Patriots
About the Project
The 2020-2021 Illinois State Project is “Packages for Patriots”, in partnership with Operation Support Our Troops-America (OSOT). OSOT is based in Lisle, Illinois, and is one of the largest volunteer military support organizations in America.
While serving around the world, military members do not often have access to basic necessities, much less the luxuries we enjoy at home. OSOT collects public donations of food, toiletries, letters, and any items that might brighten a soldier’s day. Community volunteers then pack these items into twenty-five pound boxes, which are shipped to active-duty soldiers. Over 2,000 pounds of comfort have been shipped to date, and this year ISCAR is helping send even more soldiers a slice of life back home.
It costs OSOT an average of $37.00 in donations to ship one box overseas. In commemoration of CAR’s 125th anniversary, our goal is to help OSOT ship 125 boxes to soldiers around the globe. Our second goal is to become active citizens by playing a tangible part in our philanthropy. Hands-on volunteering is the best way to see the fruits of our service in real time - through “Packages for Patriots”, our members are building community by packing boxes, collecting donations, and helping at every step of the process.

National President's Project 2020-2021: Support our Brave and Noble Patriots
“Support Our Brave and Noble Patriots” is inspired by a line in our C.A.R. Song, which was written in 1928 and continues to represent C.A.R.’s ideals of patriotism and support for our veterans.
The National Society will be partnering with Pets for Vets, a 501(c)(3) organization, to raise funds to place companion animals with veterans, many of which are experiencing PTSD. The animals are adopted and trained through donations, and each companion animal is highly trained to best meet the veteran’s needs.
Pets for Vets assists in the veterans fight against PTSD through building a safety net with the animal, creating connections, and overcoming trauma. Veterans apply for an animal through Pets for Vets and go through an interview process to match the veterans with an animal. Animals are then selected from the shelter specifically for each individual veteran and are trained before being placed with the veteran. Through this process, Pets for Vets helps to save pets from shelters, as well as provides veterans with the companions and support they need.
Through this year’s National Theme and Project, C.A.R. members are encouraged to give back to those who have served our nation and Support Our Brave and Noble Patriots.
